I told Ollie that Blake and I were going to interview Dave and Sue Lawson, the Grove’s neighbors. Their son, Chase, spent a lot of time with Isaac, Sue and Lisa were also close friends.

I said, “do a quick check on them while we are gone, again, I don’t suspect anything, just following all leads.”

Ollie smiled, “sure thing Ridge.”

We pulled up to the Lawson home and Dave met us at the door, He held out his hand as we introduced ourselves to each other.

He said, “Sue will be back in a few minutes, she is across the street at the Grove’s. She took them some breakfast, she was sure Lisa isn’t up to cooking.”

I asked, “did you notice anything strange yesterday around the time Isaac disappeared?”

He shook his head, “no detective, like I told detective Robbins yesterday, you guys were all swarming the neighborhood when I got home from work. Sue will help anyway she can, but from what she told me, she didn’t notice anything either.”

Just as I was going to ask my next question, Chase walked into the kitchen rubbing his eyes, “daddy, I’m hungry.”

Dave stood and said, “ok buddy, how about a bowl of cereal?”

Chase nodded, as Dave turned to us, “excuse me for a just a minute.”

I smiled, “no problem, can’t let the little man go hungry.”

Chase looked me over and asked, “who are you?”

I said, “I’m Ridge and this is my friend Blake.”

Dave said, “they are police officers Chase, they just have a few questions for mommy and daddy.”

His eyes went wide as he asked, “are you going to arrest my daddy?”

I chuckled, “no Chase, we just have a few questions for him, he is trying to help us on the case we are working on.”

Chase again looked at Blake and I suspiciously as Dave came toward us and said, “how about you eat your cereal while you watch cartoons?”

Chase asked, “are you sure mommy said it was, ok?”

Dave chuckled, “I’m sure she won’t mind today.”

Just as Dave was coming back into the kitchen, Sue walked in the back door. She poured us all a cup of coffee as she joined us at the table.

I asked Sue, “when did you first meet Dan and Lisa?”

She said, “when we moved in. I was six months pregnant with Chase and as I was directing the movers, she walked over with a plate of cookies and pitcher of iced tea. We hit it off right away and I really appreciated her help. When Dave came home from work, Lisa watched for Dan to get home and called him over right away to help as well. The guys also got alone from the start.”

Blake asked, “where do you work Dave?”

Dave said, “I’m the head of security at the Orange Bowl, I got the job after I got out of the army. I was an MP for four years, when Sue became pregnant, we wanted to settle in one place and stop moving from one base to the next.”

This immediately took me back to when I was talking to that recruiter.

Ridge Flashback.

I met with the army recruiter several more times over the next few weeks. Every time I talked to him, I was more convinced the army was the right path for me. After I took the aptitude test, it was confirmed that I was a good fit to be an MP. A month after I graduated from high school, I was on my way to Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. Over the next six months I completed basic training and then advanced training. I was so busy with training that I didn’t have time to think too much about my sexuality, I had come to terms with being gay. I was sure the army would frown on a couple of their soldiers fooling around, so I just suppressed those urges. That didn’t stop me from checking out my fellow trainees in the showers of course.

As we were finishing our training, we were told to start thinking about where we would like to be stationed. We weren’t guaranteed to go where we wanted, but we could list our top three choices. To be honest, I didn’t care where I was stationed, I certainly didn't consider any place in particular “home”. I still hadn’t filled out the paperwork to request a duty assignment, so my 1st SGT called me into his office.

He said, “I still haven’t got your duty station request, Ridgeway.”

I said, “sorry Top, but I really don’t have a preference where I am stationed.”

He looked over the top of his glasses at me, “so, if we send you to Antarctica to guard a bunch of scientists, you are ok with that?”

I shrugged, “I suppose so.”

He chuckled, “fine, if we grant all the other’s requests, we have spots available in the desert of Nevada, the plains of North Dakota, or Frankfurt Germany.”

I thought a moment, “well, if you put it that way, I guess my choice would be Germany.”

He started writing on a paper as he laughed, “that’s what I thought, I’m glad to hear that. I really want to send Hopkins to Nevada, and Kline to North Dakota, they both pissed me off a couple of times during training.”

I said, “thanks 1st Sgt. Did Hopkins or Kline request anyplace else?”

He nodded, “yes, but they were not the cream of the crop this year. You and just about everyone else did so much better during training and I always try to place my soldiers where they are best suited. With what you have shown me over the last few months, I think you will fit in well in Frankfurt. That was my first duty station and I’m sure you will like it, I did.”

I nodded, “so Germany is better than being here in the states?”

He said, “yes, it is. Look, if you go to one of the bases here, you will end up standing guard at an entry gate or driving around looking for soldiers driving drunk as they come back from a night out. In Germany, you will be doing some actual investigation work, doing background checks on all incoming base personnel. I am recommending you for the joint task force. You will be working with some German soldiers, in a special program between our two governments to ensure visiting dignitaries are protected.”

He gave me a few more details and two weeks later, I was on a plane on my way across the Atlantic.

I moved into an apartment on base and began another month of training for my new assignment.

I reported for my first day on the task force, I had passed my background checks and now had the needed security clearance. After meeting with my new team leader, I was introduced to Johann, he was my German counterpart on the team. Johann was about the same age I was and had also just completed his training in the German Army. He was about 5’10’ with sandy blonde hair and piercing blues eyes. He gave me a great smile as we were introduced, damn it, this was going to make things a little more interesting.

We were briefed on our duties, and were told that there was an upcoming meeting, with high-ranking officials coming to the base, from all over the world. Our job was to do checks on all the attendees to ensure everyone’s safety. Johann and I were given a list of people, and we immediately began our background checks. There were over 200 people that we had to follow up on, so we would be spending a lot of time together, thankfully, Johann was fluent in English, and I knew just enough German so we could communicate.

By the end of the first week, we were getting along well and had shared details about our lives.

Johann asked, “so you have never met your father, and you haven’t seen your mother since you were 7?”

I shook my head, “no, I suppose I may have seen my dad when I was little, but I was too young to remember. I have always been kind envious of guys like you who have a family that cares about them.”

He said, “I guess it was ok, but sometimes I wish I could have had a little more freedom like you did when you were a teen.”

I asked, “what do you mean?”

Johann said, “my life was planned out from the time I was born. My grandfather was 18 when World War II ended, and he immediately joined the new Army. He said he wanted to make sure another Hitler didn’t come to power, it was our family’s duty to ensure that. So as soon as my father was old enough, he too was expected to serve and so was I.”

I asked, “so, you didn’t want to join the army?”

He shrugged, “I’m not sure, I was never really given any other options. I knew what was expected of me and I have done my best to honor my family.”

I smiled, “I guess you always want what you don’t have. I think I would have liked someone to tell me what to do, and you wanted to make your own decisions. I suppose something in between would have been nice for both of us.”

Johann chuckled, “you’re probably right, I don’t dislike being in the army. To be honest, if it had been my choice I still would have considered it. Either that or I would have gone to university to study police work. This way, I get to do both, and I get paid.”

Johann and I had many more talks like this over the two weeks it took to complete our project. When we finished our work, Johann suggested we go out for a beer to celebrate the investigating portion of our assignment being completed. We would still have to provide security for the meeting that would be taking place the following Monday.

We went to one of the bars on base and Johann ordered us each a beer. I had never drunk alcohol and as I took my first drink, I was not impressed with Johann’s selection.

He laughed when he saw my reaction, he asked, “you do not like beer?”

I blushed, “I’ve never had it before, but honestly, it’s not my favorite.”

The bartender overheard us and chuckled too, “that is a common reaction from young American soldiers, they aren’t used to good German beer, can I bring you something else?”

I said, “I’m sorry, I don’t mean to insult you.”

Johann said, “it’s no problem, you can try something else.”

I asked the bartender, “what was that drink you made for that table over there?”

He said, “that was a rum and Coke, would you like to try one?”

I nodded, “yes please.” I took my first sip and knew I had found my favorite drink.

Johann finished my beer as I had a second rum and Coke. We still had to work the next day, so we stopped after two drinks, I will admit, I did have a slight buzz. We walked back to our apartments, Johann lived in a different building, but was in the same complex as I was.

He said, “if you would like to come in, I can put on a pot of coffee.”

I nodded, “sure, I think I could use a cup.”

As we sat down to drink our coffee, we started another one of our talks, somehow leading up to a discussion about our love lives.

Johann asked, “did you have a girl back in the states?”

I took a deep breath, I’m not sure if the rum had loosened me up, I said, “no, no girl back home, in fact, I have never been with a girl.” I watched for Johann’s reaction.

He just sipped his coffee and set his cup down as he looked at me, “so you have never had sex?”

I shook my head, “I didn’t say that I have never had sex, I said, I have never been with a girl.”

Johann grinned, “the same for me, may I kiss you?”

I looked into those blues eyes as I just nodded, and Johann moved in until our lips met. I pulled him on top of me as we made out for the next fifteen minutes, my cock getting harder by the minute.

Johann reached down and ran his hand over my hardon as he broke our kiss, “would you like to go to the bedroom?”

Again, I just nodded as he pulled me up from the couch and led me down the hall. We undressed each other and I got a good look at that perfect uncut cock. It was just the right length and girth, maybe just slightly bigger than Alex. We got on the bed and began sucking each other, he tasted so good, it had been almost nine months since the last time I was with Alex. Johann knew how to work his tongue on my aching pole, this was certainly not his first time. I tried to match his skill level, from his moans, I must have been doing ok. Johann moved from my dick and began to lick and suck my nuts. He continued his trek further and I soon felt his tongue reach my hole as I felt a shiver run up my spline. I let his cock fall from my mouth as I spread my legs apart to give him all the access he wanted. I rolled onto my back and pulled my legs up in the air and Johann maneuvered himself so he could really dive into my ass. My eyes rolled back in my head as he pushed his tongue in and out, getting me good and wet. My head thrashed from side to side as I blurted out, “God, will you fuck me already?”

Johann grinned again as he came up for a kiss and asked, “are you sure?”

I kissed him back, “hell yes.”

We continued to kiss as he lined his pole up with its target and slowly pushed in until I felt him bottom out. Johann gave me just enough time to adjust to his girth, then began to build up speed, hitting my love button on every stroke. I had my legs wrapped around Johann as our lips remained locked together and our tongues danced. Johann was sending all my nerves into overdrive, I was in pure ecstasy. My aching cock was trapped between our stomachs, and I felt the pressure building as he continued to thrust into the depth of my love tunnel. I let out a final gasp as my dick began to spasm and spew out spurt after spurt of hot love juice. Johann pushed in as far as he could and I felt my insides being filled with seed, the excess was starting to leak out around his cock and run down the crack of my ass.

Johann broke our kiss and gave me that sexy grin, “did you like that?”

I just nodded between breathes and panted, “oh yeah, I did.”

We kissed for a bit longer, then cuddled together and for the first time, I spent the night in the arms of another man. The time I spent with Alex was great, but this seemed like something else, something much bigger.

While the army no longer kicked out gay soldiers, Johann and I choose not to go public with our relationship. We were able to remain professional while we were on duty, but we soon were spending all of our free time together. It wasn’t only about the sex either, we enjoyed going out to eat, going to movies and concerts, anything that any other couple would do. I was so glad I listened to my 1st Sgt and agreed to take the assignment in Germany.

My tour in Germany was only for a year, so we knew our time together was probably going to come to an end. A few weeks later I received my new orders, and I was going to be headed back to the states for my final year in the army. Johann was also being moved to another base in Germany. We kept in contact with emails and phone calls, but like a lot of long-distance relationships, the call frequency decreased. It went from weekly to every other week, then monthly, we now usually only talk about once a year.

My next stop was right back to Fort Leanord Wood, this time as a trainer. I would be training new recruits to complete background checks and providing security at large gatherings for high profile people. While I liked my new job, I was glad that it was only going to last about a year. I knew I would probably be bored with it before too much longer. I guess I must have needed time to get over Johann, I didn’t date or even hook up for the time I was in Missouri. As my enlistment was coming to an end, I needed to decide if I was going to reenlist or leave the army. I had no idea what I would do if I decided not to extend my time in the army.

I was brought out of my daydream by Blakes voice.

He asked Sue, “so then, after Chase and Isaac were born you remained good friends and the boys have always played together?”

She nodded, “yes, Lisa was asking always asking me about being pregnant and she was the first friend I invited over after Chase was born.”

I was slightly confused, I said, “I thought the boys were the same age.”

Sue said, “they are, Chase was born on July 17, and Dan and Lisa brought Isaac home on the 1st of August. I think he was about 4 days old.”

Blake said, “brought him home? Wasn’t Lisa pregnant the same time you were?”

She said, “Lisa wasn’t pregnant, she isn’t able to have kids, Isaac is adopted.”
