Playgirl Plus Review

For over 50 years, Playgirl has been a legend. With a focus on model-quality men, the magazine carved out a niche for itself. Playgirl has addressed their magazine to a primarily female audience, but has always had plenty to offer male readers who are into the type of handsome hunks that are the Playgirl specialty. And there are plenty of them here, from all-American jocks next door to guys who went on to do porn, bodybuilders and muscle hunks, as well as model-quality guys with athletic swimmer physiques. Playgirl Plus brings us back to the Playgirl roots, but with a sleek, modern layout and even more sexy men to drool over.

The site shows off its men - mostly well-built hunks, some very muscular while others are fit and sexy - in exclusive solo photo shoots. And the newest content also offers the models in good quality videos and interviews, as well. The latest men are varied. Vladimir hails from Ukraine - he's a mouthwatering hunk with a muscled body, a hairy patch on his chest, masculine good looks, and a thousand-watt smile. Leo has dark hair and facial hair, he's handsome (he's actually a model) with a built, defined physique; and Jamal hails from Naples, Italy, and he looks like he belongs in that dashing tuxedo he starts off wearing in his shoot. Each man's page lists his Instagram account, his model agency (if any), height, age, weight, and astrological sign, and I notice the men are from around the world. 

And then there are the magazine issues, which harken back to the days when the magazine was a powerhouse in showing off the male form naked, if not explicit, for the titillation of the American public. There are 99 magazine issues in the Archives (up from 24 last visit) running from the 1970s (including the infamous Burt Reynolds issue) to 2007 plus three "Special Editions" that were released to show off "The World's Sexiest Men" in 2011 and 2015 as well as the 40th anniversary issue. I liked what I found here, but I found navigating each issue to be a little clunky. For me, it was easier to browse the content by sections - Centerfolds, Celebs, Interviews, Erotic Fiction, and Articles - which offers content from the magazines in an easier-to-navigate format.

There are also pictorials and interviews with celebs including actors, movie stars, singers, and more. I found an interview with Tom Selleck, a profile of Dolly Parton, an interview with wrestling's Shawn Michaels, "at home" with Michael Caine, chatting with Margaret Cho, Jerry Springer, Mario Van Peebles, and more. The 116 interviews are from 1973 through 2007, and I enjoyed getting to know my fave celebrities as well as seeing how they've changed over the years.

Playgirl Plus offers 38 exclusive and erotic videos in the Updates section, and a new one is added every month. The videos are offered in MP4 format, and you can download them in three sizes up to 1920x1080 at good quality. You can also stream the videos in a player sized at 1300x728, the streaming videos are also good quality, and they enlarge to full screen pretty well. The site worked fine and the videos looked great on my phone and tablet.

Each man in the new updates has a photo set. These are good quality digital stills, the online versions sized at 1200x1600, but if you download the zip files, you get the full-sized photos at a larger 2000x2999 or bigger. Once you click a picture, you're taken to the viewer where you'll find slideshow controls and pic to pic navigation. The pictures are very slick and professional, and the men really know how to show off. 

There are two more sections. First is Pictorials, where you'll find past photo spreads with text from the magazines featuring all sorts of men and some softcore straight sex, as well. Then there's Erotic Fiction. There are 160 fantasies and stories written from the female perspective. The stories are all from the magazines, and they're satisfyingly long and well-written. There are stories about sex with a cop, sex with the guy at the bachelorette party, and some reader fantasies sent to the magazine.

Let's talk about updates. PlaygirlPlus has added 33 "Man of the Month" updates in the past 29 months, each including a video, interview, and a photo gallery. They've also added 75 more full classic Playgirl magazines in that period, 80 more interviews, and there are 117 more erotic stories were added, as well. I believe there were 432 issues of Playgirl released between 1973 and 2009, so they have plenty more magazines to scan and upload for members.

There are no real downsides. The navigation in the archives is, as mentioned, not the most intuitive. And the older parts from magazines may be scanned from the original paper versions, but that's to be expected. And I do wish they'd have weekly updates, but overall, I found the site is so much improved compared to five or more years ago, and it's grown since our last visit, leaving me little to complain about.

For many years, Playgirl was a celebration of men and all the ways they are sexy, and Playgirl Plus has continued this tradition with hot men worth drooling over. The Man of the Month section, found in Updates, is where you'll find the latest content, with modern, good quality videos, professionally shot pics, interviews and more. And when you're ready for more hot guys, you can either spend time perusing 24 classic Playgirl magazines or go right for those sexy guys in the Centerfolds section. And when you're done there, you can read articles and interviews. The site will be adding a Man of the Month, two classic Playgirl issues, plus three erotic stories, and there's the hot pictorial section, even though it doesn't update. If you're a fan of the men of Playgirl, this is a great way to see all those hot men from the '70s through the 2000s, plus those gorgeous men in their new productions.
